A fresh start

This Blog is set up to diarise our purchase and re-build of a Lifeboat from the SS Canberra ( The Great White Whale ).

In looking for a boat to suit our living aboard in the near future, we came across an advert for "Midnight Oil", a lifeboat built by Schatt in 1960 for the P & O ship SS Canberra
After viewing her at Fareham Upper Quay Marina we fell for her and her history and struck a deal for £6000 to include 2 months rent of the mooring at Fareham. This was to be the start of an adventure with a boat that is very well documented on the www, with it's trials and tribulations, some of which are heroic and some very tragic.

  1. We have the sea in our blood. There was Raleigh, Frobisher, Nelson and Flynn(Errol), and so the tradition continues... Take care on those dangerous waters, but there is no longer the need to watch out for french sail !!
